The group Boston has a song called "Don't Look Back" that has the following lyrics:
It's a bright horizon but I'm awakin'
Oh I see myself in a brand new way
The sun is shinin'
The clouds are breakin'
'Cause I can't lose now, there's no game to play
Oh I see myself in a brand new way
The sun is shinin'
The clouds are breakin'
'Cause I can't lose now, there's no game to play
Forget the fact that I'm showing my age by quoting a Boston song. That's not the point here. The point is, today is the first day of your new life.
It doesn't matter how many calories you went over on your goal yesterday. It doesn't matter how many times you hit snooze yesterday. What matters is that you get up today with a renewed vigor and say, "Today is the day that I hit all of my goals."
One of my favorite books is "The Greatest Salesman in the World" by Og Mandino. Even though I am not a salesman, I try to read the book at least once a year.
One of my favorite quotes in the book says, "Today I begin a new life. Today I shed my old skin which hath, too long, suffered the bruises of failure and the wounds of mediocrity."
Don't look back! Your new life starts today.
The only reason you should ever look back is to see how far you've come. You've come a long way.
Don't be discouraged because you ate your weight in donuts over the weekend. That is gone and there is absolutely nothing you can do to change it...unless you have a Delorean and a flux capacitor.
Today is the day to focus on. Once again, quoting Og Mandino: "Today my old skin has become as dust. I will walk tall among men and they will know me not, for today I am a new man, with a new life."
