Some people have noticed that I've lost a few pounds. As usual, when someone has lost weight, people seem interested in how they are doing it. They want to hear that all this person is doing to lose weight is to eat burgers, fries and milkshakes every meal of the day. (At least that's what I wanted to hear when I was struggling to lose weight.)
We all want a quick fix. It's so much easier to take a pill or drink some magic berry juice or take doses of pregnant women urine than it is to wake up a little earlier or eat a little less.
So when people ask me how I'm losing weight and getting generally healthier, I tell them, "You really don't want to know."
This really intrigues them. They think I have the ultimate secret. So they prod some more and I tell them, "I get up at 4:20 am and walk/jog, hit the gym at 5:00 and watch every calorie, fat gram and sugar crystal that I take into my body. Oh yeah, and I drink enough water to make fish jealous."
They are always disapointed when they hear the truth because, let's face it, who really wants to get up at 4:20 in the morning to exercise? I know I don't, but I do it nonetheless because I am determined to lose this weight and become a healthier person. I am tired of making excuses or setting goals that I know I'll never reach. This time I'm in it for the long haul.
And trust me, this is going to be a long haul, filled with difficult times.
And I wouldn't want it any other way.
